Friends of Hollycroft Park from 2000 to 2015
The friends of Hollycroft park was established by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council in the year 2000 to work with local residents, the local authority and other voluntary groups to advance the environmental, horticultural, historical, artistic, sporting and educational value of the park and to support, where appropriate, other bodies organising events in the park.
The group started off serving teas at the Sunday afternoon band concerts that the council put on but in 2003, the group began to put on events such as the Easter “eggstravaganza” and the teddy bears picnic in the park.
The group has grown and developed over the years forming links with Schools, businesses and community groups. In 2008 they created a wildlife garden in the park as part of the BBC breathing spaces program and in 2013 installed two table tennis tables with funding from Sport England. The friends hosted numerous events over the years including, theatre productions, music festivals, gardening sessions and plant swaps but also served refreshments at over 100 Sunday afternoon band concerts.
The friends group have always been an independent group but in June 2012 became a fully independent registered charity working for the benefit of Hollycroft Park. The group works in partnership with the Borough Council and has supported the Council’s Proms in the Park event for the past 15 years.
During the life of the friends group they have raised over £41,000 all of which has been an enormous benefit to the park
In 2015, on the groups fifteenth birthday and 80 years since the park was formally opened, the friends gave a birthday party with music, crafts, refreshments and a display, in the pavilion, of people’s memories of the park
